And the award goes to....

Every year, Cal Poly comes out with a "Best of SLO" newspaper where they list the best seafood, best burger, best place to eat when you're drunk as fuck, etc.

So I decided to come up with my own "Best of." Or more like "The Best I've Ever Had Anywhere- But Pretty Much Limited to California." This mostly arose from a debate I had yesterday with my boyfriend regarding the best steak on the central coast. So here we go- we'll start with steak.

Best Steak:
The Hitching Post in Casmalia, CA
Order the Filet Mignon- you'll forget about everything else on your plate.

Best Burger:
Sylvester's Burgers in Los Osos, CA
Big, Hot, and Juicy. I like the mushroom or sauted onion. SO GOOD. Do NOT go to the Sylvester's in Atascadero. No bueno.


Best Cookie:
Cowboy Cookies in San Luis Obispo, CA
All of them are amazing. Try to get there when they're still hot.

Best Clam Chowder:
Splash Cafe in Pismo Beach, CA
Clam Chowder in a sourdough breadbowl. The one in SLO is pretty good but it's just not the same.


Best Seafood Dish:
Bubba Gump's in Monterey, CA
Stuffed Shrimp. Nuf' said.


Best Italian Dish:
Giuseppe's in Pismo Beach, CA
I love the gnocci. Disclaimer: I'm not rich enough to try every Italian restaurant I come across so the sampling is a little biased. I hear Giancarlo's in Morro Bay is very good.


Best Stew/Soup:
A.J. Spurs in Arroyo Grande, CA
There's a bunch of locations all over the central coast and the food is pretty consistent. The stew comes with the meal in a cast iron pot. Free refills. :)


Best Beer Selection:
Spike's in San Luis Obispo, CA
Try all their beers and get a t-shirt. Or just buy a t-shirt cause it's a lot cheaper.


Best Dessert:
Taco Temple in Morro Bay, CA
I thought I was going to die from nirvana overdose when I had their Chai Cheesecake. I don't say things like that- ever.


Best Location:
Olde Port Inn in Avila Beach, CA
It's on a pier and the tables are see-through so you can see the ocean below. :) Also, their bacon wrapped shrimp is phenom.


Best Burrito:
Freebirds in Santa Barbara, CA
There are no words.


And finally.....

Best Cupcake:
Sprinkles Cupcakes in Beverley Hills, CA
I like Strawberry. This is the only location that I have had that's any good.
